Chinese Orange Spare Ribs (Chinese Cooking Style) Recipe

Welcome to Chinese Cooking. My name is Xiao Wei, even at a early age I have always had a strong passion for Cooking. My family still live in northern Chinese, where I visit each year and pick-up new Asian/Chinese recipes.

500g Spare Ribs
1 Spring Onion
10g Ginger
300g Oranges
2 Tbsp (20g) Sugar
1 Tbsp Light Soy Sauce
1 Tsp Sesame Seeds
½ Tsp Star Anise Powder
Salt to Taste

1. Finely chop the ginger and spring onion
2. Peel the orange
3. Cut half of the peel into thin threads for garnish (optional)
4. Cut the orange into bite size chunks – remove the seed if any
5. Place in a liquidizer, then liquidize
6. Boil 1 litre of water in a saucepan
7. Place ribs into the saucepan, boil for about 30 minutes or till cooked and tender, remove and drain
8. Heat the wok on medium heat
9. Place 1 Tbsp oil and the sugar into the wok, stir and heat till turned brown
10. Add the ribs, stir and fry for a minute
11. Add the orange juice from step 6, ginger, spring onion, star anise powder, salt and the soy sauce
12. Stir and mix well
13. Cover the wok and cook for 5 minutes
14. Remove the cover and cook for further minute on high heat till the sauce is thicken
15. Transfer onto a dish, sprinkle with sesame seeds, garnish and serve
