Cottage Pie Recipe – Beef and Mashed Potato Casserole

Here is a simple and tasty recipe for Cottage Pie. Most of you have heard of Shepherd’s Pie, which is made with lamb. Cottage pie is almost similar, but is made with ground beef.

INGREDIENTS
2 lbs ground beef
pinch of salt
1 onion (minced)
2 medium carrots (grated)
3 cloves of garlic minced
2 tbls tomato paste
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
4 to 5 tbls all purpose flour
1 1/2 to 2 cups beef stock
1 small bag of frozen peas (about 2 cups of peas)
2 to 2 1/2 lbs Russet Potatoes
salt to taste
6 tbls butter
1/2 heavy cream
2 cups sharp white cheddar cheese
1 large egg yolk (optional)
9 x 13 inch baking dish or pan
(I used a 2 1/2 quart casserole Corning Ware dish)
